Solar panels let you turn sunlight into electricity. That means you can power your home or business with clean, renewable energy – cutting carbon, saving money, and reducing your reliance on fossil fuels.
No emissions. Less on your bills. Simple.
HOW DO THEY WORK?
Here’s what’s happening on your roof:
Soak up the sun
Solar panels (made up of photovoltaic cells) capture energy from daylight – not just sunshine!
Create electricity
This energy is turned into direct current (DC) electricity.
Make it usable
An inverter transforms that DC into alternating current (AC), which powers your lights, appliances, and devices.
Use it or store it
Use it straight away, store it in a battery, or export it to the grid and earn money back.
IS YOUR ROOF SUITABLE?
The ideal setup is a south-facing roof with minimal shading. But don’t worry if yours faces east or west – they can still work for you. Here are some things to check:
Is there minimal shading from trees, chimneys, or other buildings?
Is there enough clear space on your roof for installation?
Is your roof structurally sound? (Your installer will help confirm this)
WHY GO SOLAR?
Slash your energy bills
Generate your own power and buy less from the grid.
Reduce your carbon footprint
Solar energy is 100% renewable and clean.
Boost your building’s value
Solar panels are a great selling point.
Low maintenance, long lifespan
Most panels last 25+ years with very little upkeep.
Government incentives available
Get paid for the energy you export – and benefit from zero VAT on installation until 2027.
Cleaner air, healthier city
Solar panels produce no air pollution – and help cut carbon.
Energy independence
Reduce your reliance on fossil fuels and support a renewable future.
WHAT COULD YOU SAVE?
A typical 4kW solar system could save you up to £500 per year on your energy bills. Add a battery, and you could store more and save more by using your solar energy in the evenings too.
COMMON MYTHS
“Solar panels don’t work in winter”
They work in daylight, not just sunshine – even on cloudy days.
“Solar energy is unreliable”
Pairing your system with battery storage gives you greater control.
“It’s too expensive to install”
Prices have dropped massively – and incentives or finance options are available.
PLANNING PERMISSION
Many energy upgrades are considered Permitted Developments and so don’t require planning permission, particularly if they don’t affect the external appearance of your property. Planning permission is usually needed for properties in conservation areas or national landscapes, flats, and listed buildings. Always check whether planning permission is required before you start an upgrade project.
