Peterborough isn’t new to environmental ambition. Peterborough has been working towards a more sustainable future for over 30 years, with a clear focus on practical climate action and long-term resilience. And we haven’t slowed down since. 

In 2019, the council declared a climate emergency. From adopting our city’s Local Area Energy Plan in 2022 to developing our council’s Roadmap to Net Zero in 2024, we’re building a city that’s cleaner, fairer, and ready for the future. 

Our strategic priorities ensure that we put climate and the environment at the heart of everything we do. From creating a sustainable city with low-carbon homes, transport and infrastructure, to supporting communities to thrive through greener, healthier neighbourhoods, and attracting investment in clean growth, delivering innovation and local employment. 

Because for us, climate action isn’t just about carbon. It’s about comfort, cost, and community. It’s about making Peterborough a better place to live, now and for the future.
